Montana is one of the smaller states with less than a million people, but it is one of the highest in the entire United States for drug abuse and alcohol abuse. The tribal agencies have four of the states 57 drug and treatment centers for Native Americans that have drug and alcohol abuse problems. Montana’s Blackfoot Reservation has a high usage of cocaine, thus one of the main reasons, the tribal agencies have created drug and alcohol rehab centers.
Most of the treatment centers are outpatient programs even though inpatient programs are available to those who wish a long-term treatment program. Most of these programs receive government funding to ensure the programs are up to date and have sufficient funds to aid drug and alcohol abusers in their recovery. Each facility or program has similar treatments such as detox, but all have are done in a different manner. If they do not have what type of treatment you need you may have to go out of state to where they offer it. This is quit common since they only have eight long-term facilities.
With the growing numbers of kids starting to abuse drugs and alcohol many parents feel the need to educate themselves on to what the signs are and what help they can give or get for their kids. Parents realize that help now for drug abuse or alcohol abuse will prevent long-term care later in their lives.
In the state of Montana, addiction to prescription drugs is growing. With the rise in prescription drug abuse, more detox centers are being created. One of the most problematic drug abuse problems in Montana is with children. Kids have what is known as Farm Parties. Each kid will bring a prescription drug from their parent’s medicine cabinet. At the party, all the drugs will be tossed into a large bowl. Each participate at the party will then grab a hand full of drugs and pop them into their mouth. In most cases, a beer or other alcoholic beverage will be used to swallow the pills. No one knows that type of pills they have taken or what the results may be. Many children have died due to this type of behavior.
The national agencies that have started programs and given grants to aid Montana in their alcohol abuse and drug abuse problem include National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information and Center for Substance Abuse Prevention. These are only two of the many agencies that have worked very hard to start programs to help drug and alcohol abuse on many levels. The programs may include detox, in-patient, and out patient treatments, but all are followed up with counseling and referrals to many support groups. This is a long battle and many have a healthy life afterwards. No matter what type of addiction you or a loved one may be struggling with in the state of Montana, you will find a program to help you through it with follow up care.
