Can I Collect Unemployment in Ga After Failing a Random Drug Screen?

Question by Fred: Can I collect unemployment in Ga after failing a random drug screen?
I failed a random drug screen, cocaine in my system. I asked for a second test to verify. The company had just issued a memo stating that any failed test would result in the employee attending a mandatory rehab, or face immediate discharge. I asked my supervisor what do I do now? He stated I was to leave the premises until the results of the second test were verified. I loaded my tools, and he returned with both of my last checks, and a dismissal slip stating “failed random drug screen” as the reason for dismissal. It has been three months, and they have not sent results of the second test. What should I do now, apply for unemployment, or call them and insist they show me verification. Diabetics are known for false positives, but, I had used 5 days previous, and not much then. I should have been clean after 3 days.

Should have? Consider that a big oops. It seems you were fired for cause, so it is unlikely you can get unemployment.

Since you have not heard, it suggests the company already knows the result of the verification test, and it verified what they expected.
