On Wednesday, September 5, 2012, Commissioner González-Sánchez was joined by people in recovery and representatives from the substance use disorder field to visit the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and to ring The Closing Bell to launch National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. Governor Andrew Cuomo has issued a proclamation designating September 2012 as Recovery Month in the Empire State. The theme for 2012 Recovery Month is “Join the Voices for Recovery, It’s Worth It”. OASAS is partnering with national, state, and local organizations to raise awareness of the chronic disease of addiction and help inform the public about the many pathways to recovery through statewide activities in the month of September. To watch the ringing of The Closing Bell, a brief video has been posted by the New York State Stock Exchange.
